Software:
Android is now at 51% of the market for smart phone operating systems.
Apples iOS has 30.7%, RIM at 12.3%, and Microsoft at 3.9% of the market.
Hardware:
Samung sold 26% of smart phone handsets.
LG with 19.3%.
Apple number of units sold with 14%
Motorola came in at 12.8%
Usage:
74.3% of U.S. smartphone owners sent text messages on their devices, while 50% downloaded apps and 49.3% browsed the web. Social networking is used by 36.1% of total users, while games and music are used by 32.6% and 25.3% respectively. A full breakdown of all the data can be found at the source.
As in past quarters, Android based phones have been steadily gaining market share. In Feburary, Google announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that Android activations were at a rate for 850,000 a day. The daily activations have been steadily climbing in each report released by Google.
