Defend Against Cyberattacks

Cybersecurity is essential for your computer. Whether it is personal or for business, your computer is your primary tool for getting your projects completed.

Reports state that there has been a surge in phishing attacks this year. These attacks have been targeting Google AppStreet users. The largest spike since the year began being an occurrence on April 20th, where 10.88% of all global phishing emails were identified and neutralized by KnowBe4 Defend. A majority of these attacks were impersonated Meta, and the smaller fraction impersonating PayPal.

What is AppSheet?

AppSheet is a known platform owned by Google, commonly used by businesses when multiple team members have a similar project to work on. It can also be used to organize messages and who the recipients will be.

However, hackers have been using AppSheet to their advantage to launch multiple attacks to various victims.

How The Attack Operates

The hackers send out emails impersonating a legitimate business, often giving warnings about account deletion, and that the recipient must take immediate action to avoid consequences. These attacks are often effective because they are abusing the reputation of AppSheet, primarily with how trusted the program is for many people.

The emails often include a link in the message, which is meant to “direct” them to a page where they can sort out the “issue” that they are being warned about. The link will lead to a fake website impersonating a help center, and the site is designed to steal the login credentials of the victim’s account.

Preventing Cyberattacks

AppSheet is not the only business tool that hackers have been exploiting for these attacks. Other services they have been abusing include Microsoft, Google, QuickBooks, and Telegram.

Cyberattacks can easily adapt, so it is highly recommended to check your computer’s security system. However, AI is limited to how efficient it can detect a potential threat. Organizations should not only educate themselves on how to efficiently update their cybersecurity and check their system, but they should also educate their employees on how to spot the red flags from a potentially malicious email.
